The cultivation of asparagus has a long tradition in the Nienburg region, although it has only been marketed under the registered seal of quality "Nienburger Asparagus" since 1996. Already at the turn of the century these noble vegetables were grown in the district. With the advancement of technology, the acreage has increased dramatically over the years. Over 1,000 hectares of asparagus fields are currently cultivated around Nienburg. In the national comparison, the region occupies the 7th place. The name of the Nienburger asparagus ranks 3rd in the national ranking.
The taste of the "Nienburger asparagus" is characterized by its particularly sweet flavour. The reason for this exquisite taste is that the asparagus is grown on the light geest soils along the Weser. Only asparagus grown here may be sold under the "Nienburger asparagus".seal of approval.
